The students undergoing this lesson plan will be 30 high school freshman in an English class.
Freshman are typically not the most enthusiastic about academic; however, they do enjoy activities and one such as "The Cereal Race to Knowledge" will keep them engaged and awake.
State objectives
For this lesson, I want students to first be set up into groups of five. There will be six groups.
- Grouped learning is used to improve cooperative skills.
Next, I want these students to make some sort of cereal related skit featuring the names of three cereals and one of the three data titles they will learn about in the main activity: fat, salt and sugar. They will chose these randomly by using a word mixer/picker application or website.
- Encourage creativity and improvisational skill building.
Lastly, each student will be given one of the three cereals they had chosen for their skit to find the fat, salt and sugar contained in each box. They will be assigned to collect the data in google docs so they are able to share their results among their group members.
- Applying knowledge and collecting data.
Also, they will be timed and the group who finishes first with all accurate information gets to chose between a breakfast party for their class or 20 extra credit points for the winning group members.
- Encourage friendly competition, accuracy, and decision making skills.

Evaluate and Revise
The main objective, for me as an aspiring teacher, is to teach students to work well with one another. I will have them evaluate themselves as a group using this rubric:
As my final revision, I will gauge the students work by accuracy of information. If each group gets the information correct, they will receive full points. For each cereal they make incorrect observations on, they will lose 10 points.
